Today is Thanksgiving but one that is unprecedented in most of our lifetimes. Due to Covid-19 many of us, including CLCI staff, are limited to who we can see and are adapting to new modalities of connecting with loved ones and expressing our holiday thankfulness.
On Tuesday we hosted a special CLCI LIVE with Lisa Finck (C.P.C., A.C.C.), Brooke Adair Walters (M.C.L.C., C.P.C), Rae Carmen (A.C.C., M.C.L.C), Jerome LeDuff Jr (M.C.L.C.) and alumni, focusing on the theme of appreciation, thankfulness, and gratitude.
In our CLCI LIVE, we try to understand how we as coaches and people can be open to gratitude and how we can foster thankfulness in our day-to-day lives
We begin at CLCI by meditating on and discussing just what gratitude is. While a variety of answers arose, there were some common themes involved in our discussion: It is mixed with appreciation and thankfulness, it is fulfilling, and it is a palpable feeling.
When you show gratitude and it is being shown to you, it is like an exchange of gifts between two people and can be shown in a variety of ways.
In our talk, we found that one way of expressing appreciation is by asking for help and recognizing that there is an abundance of people around you who can assist your needs, emotional or otherwise. Tiara brought up an amazing point in our discussion by asking,
"What if you asking for help is everything to someone?"
When you ask for help, you acknowledge the abilities and good qualities of someone else, while humbling yourself and recognize that it is okay to rely on others.
To tie it all into coaching, everyday coaches interact with clients and there is an exchange of gratitude appreciation. We as coaches appreciate the honest effort to change and often take personal lessons in the development of clients. Simultaneously, clients are grateful to have someone in their life who is open, nonjudgmental, and is willing to have a honest discussion about their personal development.
In conclusion, we are thankful to all our clients who trust us and all our coaches who have helped us become better people.
Thankful to Tiara, Christine, and Ayesha for joining us for our CLCI LIVE
